Compassion for Yourself
As humans in modern society we find it much easier to show compassion for others than we do showing it for ourselves.
Self-compassion as a scientific area of research was established by Dr. Kristen Neff in the early 2000s. Preceding and informing it we find the mindfulness and metta meditation practices from various branches of Buddhism.
Other notable people in this areas include Dr. Chris Germer, a clinical psychologist that co-developed Mindful Self-Compassion Course (MSC) with Kristen Neff, and Dr. Paul Gilbert whom developed Compassion-Focussed-Therapy (CFT).

The diagram below shows the opposing forces to the three aspects of self-compassion.
Note below that I've replaced the commonly used term Common Humanity with Ubuntu, which means according to Wikipedia:
Ubuntu is a set of African values that emphasize the interconnectedness of individuals and their communities. It is often translated as "I am because we are" or "humanity towards others"
